Global Transient Amnesia Board and Resident Review Points

Global Transient Amnesia is characterized by the abrupt loss of the ability to remember recent events. GTA is usually benign and resolve within hours. Although no pathology or conditions like stroke or seizure are associated with GTA, however, Emotional stress is a recognized trigger of this neurological condition. The patient usually presents with witnesses that will mention that the patient is not able to recall events that range from an hour up to a year sometime and will keep repeating the same questions again and again. The patient is typically at normal/usual baseline physical exam and will not exhibit another neurological sign like weakness or tremor new to him/her. GTA usually resolves in less than 24 hours.
