  • Brand Name: Suprane.
  • Chemical Structure: Fluorinated methyl ethyl ether.
  • Mechanism of Action: Modulates GABA-A receptors and glycine receptors, inhibits excitatory NMDA glutamate receptors and nicotinic ACh receptors, activates K+ channels, and inhibits voltage-gated Na+ and Ca2+ channels.
  • Molecular Formula: C3H2F6O.
  • Vapor Pressure: 669 mmHg.
  • Blood/Gas Partition Coefficient: 0.42.
  • Minimum Alveolar Concentration (MAC): 6%.
  • Metabolism/Excretion: Minimal metabolism, primarily excreted via the lungs.
  • Side Effects: Bronchospasm, laryngospasm, coughing, increased heart rate, hypertension, decreased cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2), decreased intracranial pressure (ICP), increased cerebral blood flow (CBF), and prolonged QT interval.
  • Contraindications/Cautions: Trigger for malignant hyperthermia (MH), airway irritant (avoid as induction agent), sympathetic stimulation.
